SVT Mixat

Client / SVTi

Brief / Mixat is an app aimed at 9-12-year-olds, offering a safe and trusted source of news that is engaging and age-appropriate. However, the app currently has limitations: it lacks essential features such as a way to revisit previously viewed content, share options, a navigation menu, an "About" page, or a search function. The content is not customizable, making it challenging for users to tailor their experience. Users tend to scroll through the Instagram-like feed without much engagement, and only 70% of them complete the stories.

Process / Based on research and interviews conducted with the target group and SVT staff, our team of five collaborated to brainstorm and ideate potential solutions. After analyzing the findings, we worked with SVT to outline two potential prototype directions.

Solution / Our hypothesis is that the target audience—both new readers and those who read more fluently—would respond positively to a simpler, more engaging story experience. We aim to test concepts for improved navigation that create a more accessible and enjoyable experience. The strategy focuses on encouraging frequent, quick visits with brief but informative content, browsing across categories, and selecting preferred news topics. Engagement features such as chat, comments on articles, and consolidated information aim to foster a more interactive experience.
